 Overview

This festival is elegant and absolutely gorgeous succeeded from Edo periodl. "Honmatsuri (the main festival)" is held every other year.
Traditional puppet show (joruri 3 men handle 1 doll) and Karakuri (traditional mechanical doll) is played on the floats. These art performances are nationally designated as intangeble folk cultural asset.

In "Honmatsuri", 5 floats (about 7m height and 5 weight) from 5 areas parade around the town to sounds of traditional instruments.

In "Aimatsuri", 5 floats can be seen but not puppet show and traditional mechanical doll.

 History

The festival started in 1653.

 Highlight

2 storied floats decorated with gorgeous carvings and golden leaves is must-see.

The puppet show played on the floats can be seen only here in Chiryu.
Karakuri (traditional mechanical doll) is performed to traditional music instruments and tell the story only by the movements of the dolls.
