Katsuura city will be filled with 25,000 dolls for "Girl's Day (March. 3)".
Countless numbers of dolls will be displayed at show windows of shops and stairs of private houses here and there in the city.
At the 60 stairs of Tomisaki Jinja (shrine), 1,200 dolls will be displayed and shows us magnificent feature. The dolls will be illuminated by light in the night.
Many kinds of events will be held such as the parade of girls in traditional costume, pedestrian mall and so on.
The festival started when the city received 7,000 dolls for "Girl's Day" from Katsura town (the sister city in Tokushima pref.).
At Kyu Namegawa Shogakko (it was elementary school), the biggest Kyohobina, displayed at housed in the period of Kyoho (the time of Tokugawa Yoshimune, the 8th Shogun and when the city grew and flourished in its economy and culture) can be seen.
Special feature of the dolls is long face like mask of Noh.
At some private houses, the dolls have been succeeded generation to generation can be seen.
The illuminated dolls at Tomisaki Jinja is fantastic !
Yellow rapeblossomes will be in full bloom during the festival. The contrast between the dolls and flowers is beutiful.
