Inside the garden (Site area : about 6 hectares) , 400 species and 1.5 million flowers will be in full bloom.
This area known as "Sawara" has been developed by water transportation system in Edo periods.
Scince then, it still has the atmosphere of the periods.
Beautiful contrast between purple and white flowers and green leaves, reflection of flowers on water is tasteful scene of early summer.
It opened in 1969.
The garden makes good use of nature of this place, water and green.
Iris is typical gardening flower and it is very popular since the Edo period because it blooms during rain season when it is rare to see flower.
Of course the view from walk, but also view from the boat is awesome.
When you are there, please ride on the 10 boat excurtion called "Sappa"(traditional transporting boat in this area) .
Seeing the flowers and water right in front of you is unforgettable experience.
On weekends of the season of "Suigo Sawara Iris Festival (Late May - Late June)", you can see revived traditional wedding ceremony.
In this ceremony, bride and bridegloom chosen from the public will ride on the boat and float on the waterway celebrated by audience.
It is such a tasteful and beautiful scene.
In early July, more then 300 species of water lilies will be in full bloom.
Close to this place, there is "Maekawa Ayameen (Isis garden, Itako, Ibaragi Pref.)" . In the same season, 500 species and 1 million flowers can be seen.
Highlight of Maekawa Ayameen is view point on the bridge (10m high). You will see total landscape of the garden.
From the water level (on the boat) and the top of the bridge, you can enjoy different view. Visiting the both place is recommended.

From "Sawara Sta." JR Narita Line, get on the bus for Itako and get off at
"Suiseishokubutsuen Iriguchi". It will be 5 min. by walk from the bus stop.
From Higashi-Kanto Highway "Sawara-Katori Exit", about 12km
