This ceremony is carried out to pray for safety of fishing and good catch of fish.
Portable shrines parade in each area.
All portable shrines get together at the City Hall. Every area perform shaking the shrine up and down, or left to right.
4 beautiful floats parade around the city and play traditional music instruments.
After the parade, the portable shrine of Hachiman Jinja (shrine) arrive at Katsuura port and ride on the boat then cruise around the offshore island followed by many fishing boats.
After the cruising, the portable shrine parade to Tomisaki Jinja (shrine) via morning market place.
The floats are decorated with beautiful wood carving made in late Edo period.
They are designated as tangeble cultural asset of the city.
Shaking the portable shrines on the 2nd day is one of the highlight.
Shaken shrines is just like big wave of ocean.
It also shows us vividness and manly features of people live in the city of fishery.
About 6 portable shrines (kid's one to Adult's one) connected together and shaking in the street is so overwhelming !
Kid's portable shrine parade is so cute and makes us smile.
Parade of the portable shrine and big fisherman flags on the boat on the last day is magnificent.
Walking the street of "Asaichi (one of 3 morning market in Japan)"
Eating delicious fresh fish is recommended !
