 Overview 

This festival is called as "Hakata Dontaku".

Countless numbers of people disguise as whatever they want to be and parade in the city while holding rice-spoons on both hands and beating them to make sounds.
About 650 groups, totally about 33,000 people join to the parade. About 2 millions visitors see this big parade.
 



 History 

According to the history, the festival started in 1179.
"Dontaku" named after the Dutch word's "Zondag" means holiday.








 Highlight 

The parade on Meiji Dori (street) is the highlight of the festival. People walk 1,230m from Gofukucho crossing to Tenjin crossing.
