 Overview 

At Kenka Matsuri, 19 areas of the city makes 3 teams and each team carry big bell (diameter: 1m, weight: 100kg), and drums (diameter: 60cm, length: 1m).
The team of 50 people carry the bell and try to rush into the shrine; however, the team of 250 people carrying the drums try to stop the bell at the entrance of the shrine.
Features of bumping seems like fighting.

At the ceremony of whale catching boats, 4 beautifully decorated (by Japan and gold leaf) floats go after the whale float.
It is revived story of whale catching boats; find the whale, go after him, battle, and finally catching.
The movement of the floats is rough and exciting. This ceremony pray for good catch of whale and driving away evil spirits.
 



 History 

The ceremony of whale catching is based on the real whale catching in Ise Bay area from ancien time.

Highest peak of the whale catching was in late Muromachi (16th century). And catching style of stubbing harpoon to whales is originated in Ise Bay and Mikawa Bay.





 Highlight 

Bumping of the bells and drums is overwhelming and exciting to see.

Besides the above festivals, other festivals are held near Tomita area.

<Dainenbutsu>
On 13 and 15 of August, big drum (diameter: 2m, length: 3m, weight: 300kg) parade in the town to pray for good harvest and health.

From "Nishihino Sta.", 10min. by walk.


<Amagasuga Ishitori Matsuri>
On 14 - 15 Autust, 5 floats walk through the town while playing drums.

Access:From Toyosuhara Sta.", 20min. by walk.
