【Home sweet home in Tokyo - Shin Koetsumura】
Hello. This is Masashi, flower designer in Tokyo and edits this site (F-pedia).
I now live at rennovated old fashion Japanese style house in Ueno (Taito-ku). Named "Shin Koetsumura".
1st floor is gellery of flower design works and flower design lesson. Tatami mat room on the 2nd floor is event space to promote Japanese culture.
Very close to my house, there is Shitaya Jinja (Shinto shrine) that has more than 1,000 years history. And my neighbor is called "Shitamachi (same old downtown)" and still has heartwarming atmosphere like decades ago. It is like home sweet home in Tokyo.
Cherry blossoms at Ueno Park in spring is magnifiscent. It is just about 10 min. walk from my house.
【Name of Shin Koetsumura】
"Koetsumura" is village of artizans founded by Honami Koetsu (1558 - 1637) who are craft man, calligrapher, painter, and producer of art crafts had sense of art.
Starting from Koetsu and his friend painter Tawaraya Sotatsu, lineage of their art is called "Rimpa" and produced wonderful and famous artists during about 400 years history.
Named my gallery "Shin Koetsumura" after "Koetsumura" to promote wonderful Japanse tradition and culture here in old downtown of Tokyo.
So far, I've been holding events of Ikebana (Japansse style flower arrangement), Sake tasting, Japanse tea tasting.
Also, many guests not only Japanese but also people from overseas visited here.
Even if tatami mat room on the 2nd floor is very small (capacity wise, at most 18 people), I would like to promote Japanese tradition and culture by face-to-face event.
Vision of "Shin Koetsumura"
①Base to promote culture of Edo period (1603 - 1868)
②Base to promote tradition and culture for people live in locals who want to have promotive event in Tokyo.
Through events of workshop, performance seminer of Japanese tradition and culture, I would like to create heartwarming atmosphere (space) where my neighbor and guests (Japanese and people from overseas) share fun time for mutural understanding.
